Do You Parent Well? Honor Well?

                                            The fourth commandment:  “Honor your father and mother.”  

When you honor your parents, you honor God.  And when you parent well, you carry out a God-given responsibility.  

We parent well when:

• We practice what we preach.
  
• We spend time listening and truly knowing our children.  
  
• We institute regular meal times together.
  
• We discipline (and and refuse to spoil). 
  
• Out of love we say, “No.”
  
• We teach and model our faith. 
  
• We guard our kids from over-commitment.
  
• We model a healthy marriage. 
  
• We ask forgiveness when we’ve failed as parents.

We honor our parents well when:

• After a lifetime of feeding us, one day WE pay for dinner.
  
• We grow up and move out of the house.
  
• We hold our tongues.
  
• We obey them, especially when they’re not around.  
  
• We forgive our parents when they have done wrong.
  
• We live the faith and values they have been imparted to us.
  
• We give them a hug.
  
• We care for them in older age.
  
• After our parents have died, we bear the heritage of faith and life they instilled in us.
