Hold a Pastor Accountable

"Practice what you preach."  I have a hard time preaching things I don't practice.  I've been devoting myself to a deepened prayer life in 2014.  I preached on this in February, as I highlighted the priority of prayer in spiritual movements.  Since then, I have devoted the first Thursday of the month to what we call "Frontline Prayer" - an intentional, corporate prayer gathering.

Help keep this pastor accountable to what he preaches.  If you are local in St. Louis, MO, I challenge you to wake up early on Thursday morning, May 1st and join me in our church sanctuary from 7:00-7:30AM.  If this is physically impossible for you, join me remotely from wherever you are (your bed, your kitchen, your cubicle at work, etc.).  If you're praying with me on Thursday morning, let me know.

If remote, here are some things you can pray for:

  • For our congregation, Loved and Sent.  (Or if you're not a member of my congregation, pray for your congregation's pastor, vision, mission).
  • For the sick and hurting, dying and grieving.
  • For our community and neighbors; local businesses and school districts.
  • For the gay community; that as church we engage people truthfully and graciously.
  • For the lonely and depressed, stressed and worried.
  • For those who are single; for those looking for a godly spouse.
  • For our city, state, and nation’s justice system.
  • For our mayor, county executive, governor, president, congress.
  • For orphans and foster children.
  • For abused women and children.
  • For the church around the world, especially where persecuted, oppressed, or in minority.
  • For troubled nations of war and violence, especially Syria, Ukraine, Iraq, Afghanistan, North Korea, Sudan . . .
  • For our enemies.
  • For the self-awareness to see our own failings and repent of them.
  • For times of rest and rejuvenation so that we can serve our neighbors with vigor.
