One Key for Kids in an R-Rated Election

I never thought I'd have to censor the 5:00 news.    Last week I had a conversation with my oldest son and daughter.  They had heard things like, "grab them . . ." "Just start kissing them."  "They let you do anything."  

What does a parent say to a child when this is the political discourse of the 2016 presidential election?  

There is a lot to say.  But I've starting to see the value of not only explaining, but showing.  Christians have a word for this:

Exemplars.

When surrounded by deficient examples, our children need exemplars.  
Models to imitate.  (I Cor. 4:16)
Paragons.  
Patterns to follow.  
Standards to live by.
Examples of "brave knights and heroic courage."  

The best of our morals must be illustrated for us to see.  We have godly men and women who demonstrate the best of a Christ-like example.  They don't get press.  So we must give them airtime with our children.  

Who are exemplars for your kids?  
How can you spend more time with them?  
How can you affirm the values of exemplars?  ("Have you ever noticed that Grandpa always opens the door for Grandma?")

Surround your children with adults worthy of imitation.  And as a parent, the best exemplar for your child is you.  God give us grace and wisdom.
